New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu on Monday reviewed various development initiatives including in Sector 8 in Narela, which will be the city's first sector to attain 70 per cent contiguous pooled land under the Land Pooling Policy of DDA.

Sandhu directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to take all necessary steps to provide built-up spaces to police so that police stations, chowkis and beats could be made operational at the earliest in the area.

"Strengthening police presence in the area will help in effectively curbing criminal and drug-related activities. A stronger local police presence would help enhance public safety, improve surveillance and instil a greater sense of security among residents," Sandhu said in a statement.

The Delhi LG added that development in the sub-city under the Land Pooling Policy would "catalyse sustainable and planned urban growth, contributing to the vision of a 'Viksit Dilli' and, in turn, a 'Viksit Bharat'".

The Land Pooling Policy covers nearly 200 square kilometres of area with the potential to create around 12 lakh new homes across the city in the next few years. The policy provides a framework for planned urban development through the active participation of landowners and private entities, in partnership with DDA, through assembly of land.

The LG stressed that housing development must go hand in hand with essential public facilities, well-maintained public spaces and adequate security measures.

"DDA is developing a 138-hectare Education Hub, envisaged under the Master Plan for Delhi-2047, which will be an integrated centre for higher education, research, innovation, vocational training and employment generation," a Lok Niwas note said.

LG Sandhu warned that "no laxity in providing all necessary services to the residents will be tolerated".

Underlining that the people of Delhi had exhibited robust appetite for the ready-to-move-in flats, reflected in their unprecedented brisk sales, Sandhu emphasised that it was the duty of all agencies to ensure that the people who buy these houses are provided with all required civic amenities and security.
