Shillong, Nov 2 (PTI) Days after joining the National People's Party (NPP), MLA Paul Lyngdoh was sworn in as a Cabinet minister in the Meghalaya government on Monday.

Governor C H Vijayashankar administered the oath of office to the West Shillong legislator.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Lyngdoh, a former tourism minister.

Lyngdoh's induction into the Cabinet comes two days after United Democratic Party (UDP) president Metbah Lyngdoh resigned from the Council of Ministers following a political upheaval that saw 11 of the party's 12 legislators leave the regional outfit.

While eight UDP MLAs joined the BJP in September, three others, including Paul Lyngdoh, joined the NPP, the party led by the chief minister, last month.

Paul Lyngdoh fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Metbah, who had been in charge of the departments of power, textiles, water resources and taxation.
