Dehradun, Nov 1 (PTI) Targeting the Dhami government, state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal alleged on Sunday that opposition leaders and Congress workers in Uttarakhand are being consistently targeted.

He stated that Congress will not tolerate this "repressive" style of governance under any circumstances.

Godiyal emphasised that the demand for justice and impartial action regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case remains a significant, unresolved issue for the people of Uttarakhand.

"The decision to appoint Dushyant Kumar, an accused in this case, as a governor has deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of 'Devbhoomi' Uttarakhand," he said.

He urged the people of the state to recognise that the fight for justice for Ankita Bhandari is "not merely a Congress party issue, but a struggle for the identity and honour of the entire state of Uttarakhand."

"Every citizen of the state should come forward and raise their voice. The massive turnout at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan today serves as proof that the nation's citizens are fed up with the policies of the BJP government and are now seeking change," Godiyal said.

He expressed confidence that, through the unity of Congress workers and public support, the battle to protect democracy and the Constitution would reach a decisive conclusion.

Godiyal also claimed that many Congress workers from Uttarakhand had set out to attend the grand rally in Delhi; however, "under pressure from the Uttar Pradesh government, the police intercepted thousands of them en route."

He described this as an action contrary to democratic principles and the peaceful political rights of citizens, asserting that such measures do not align with the spirit of democracy.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Dhami asked state Congress president Godiyal to clarify his stance on Rahul Gandhi's remarks regarding National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, questioning whether he supports his leader's statements.

Addressing a public meeting in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district, following his participation in the BJP's 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' march, Dhami stated that Doval is a brave son of Uttarakhand who has dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation.

Dhami also demanded that the Congress party issue a public apology to the people of Uttarakhand for the derogatory remarks made by its leader.
