Dehradun, Oct 30 (PTI) The 72 MW Tyuni-Plasu Hydropower Project in Uttarakhand has received final forest clearance from the Union Environment Ministry, paving the way for its construction, officials said on Friday.

The project, being developed by state-owned UJVN Limited, is proposed on the Tons river in Tyuni tehsil of Dehradun district. It is estimated to generate around 298.5 million units (29.85 crore units) of electricity annually.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the clearance, describing it as a significant milestone towards making Uttarakhand self-reliant in the energy sector.

The state has considerable potential for hydropower generation, and the government is committed to harnessing it while maintaining environmental balance, he said.

Dhami added that the government was working to ensure that clearances and other procedures for hydropower projects were processed in a time-bound manner to facilitate optimal utilisation of the state’s water resources.

UJVN Limited Managing Director Ajay Kumar Singh said the final forest clearance would facilitate construction of the project.

Once completed, the project would provide additional clean electricity to the state, strengthen its energy security and contribute to economic development, he said.
