Amritsar, Oct 30 (PTI) Anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota's portrait would be installed at the Central Sikh Museum here.
A resolution passed by the SGPC Executive Committee here on Friday condemned the killing of Jhota, who had been actively campaigning against drug abuse.
The Executive Committee approved the installation of Parvinder Singh Jhota's portrait in the Central Sikh Museum, located within the Darbar Sahib complex, a statement said.
Known for raising his voice against drug abuse and illegal sale of addictive substances at chemist shops, Jhota was shot in broad daylight inside a medical store at a busy marketplace in Mansa on October 13.
Ashwani Kumar, the store owner who opened fire on Jhota after he questioned him for selling addictive drugs to an elderly man, was later taken into custody from Salasar in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, the General House session of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been convened here on November 20 for the annual election of the SGPC President and other office-bearers.
During the session, elections will be conducted for the posts of President, Senior Vice-President, Junior Vice-President, General Secretary and members of the Executive Committee.
Various decisions were also taken during Friday's Executive Committee meeting of the SGPC, the statement said.
Another resolution which was passed stated that rescuing the younger generation of Punjab from the grip of drug abuse is an urgent necessity, and it is the responsibility of the government and administration to encourage young people who raise their voices for this cause.
According to the statement, the Executive Committee condemned the registration of an FIR against some youths "who participated in a protest against drugs in Mansa recently, the arrest of some of them, the removal of turbans of Sikh protesters and the alleged mistreatment of women during the incident".
"The police action against youths participating in such a movement, removal of turbans worn by Sikh protesters and mistreatment of women are acts that undermine democratic values and suppress the legitimate voice of the youth," it said.
The Executive Committee urged the Punjab Government to "immediately withdraw the FIR registered against the youths, release those arrested without delay and take strict action against those involved in the drug trade instead of targeting individuals who raise their voices against drugs".
