Kolkata, Oct 30 (PTI) West Bengal minister Arjun Singh on Friday alleged that a WhatsApp group with around 180 members had been formed to track the movements of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The police have information about the group, which has links to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, the BJP leader claimed.

"There is a WhatsApp group with around 180 members. They are tracking every movement of the chief minister, monitoring where he goes and how he travels, and recording everything through photographs and videos," Singh told reporters.

They are storing all information somewhere, the transport minister said.

"Abhishek is masterminding it. There are people hired by him," he alleged.

He further claimed that the police had substantial information about the alleged activities and that inputs had also come from senior levels of the administration.

"Our administration is alert, but we are expressing concern. Such people should immediately be sent behind bars," the minister said.

Singh also accused the TMC MP of possessing assets in Russia, Thailand and the United States and receiving foreign funds to destabilise India.

He, however, did not provide any evidence to substantiate the allegations.

Responding to the allegations, TMC leader Baiswanor Chatterjee said, "Arjun changes parties like changing shirts. His allegations have no basis. He himself is an accused in murder cases."

A multiple-term TMC MLA from Bhatpara, Singh joined the BJP for the first time in 2019 and won the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat. He rejoined the TMC in May 2022, only to return to the saffron party two years later.
