Begusarai, Oct 29 (PTI) Two persons, including a girl, died after a boat capsized in Dhabi river in Bihar's Begusarai district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place near Chamtha Rajauli village within Bachhwara police station limits on Wednesday night when a group of 20 farmers were returning home after a day's work, they said.

Confirming the two deaths, Bachhwara ASHO Jitendra Kumar Upadhyaya said the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the bodies of Sogarath Mahto (45) and Rabo Kumari (15) after hours of searching.

Four survivors were undergoing treatment at a local hospital, police said.

Lakhrupiya Devi, who was brought to Bachhwara Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment, told officials that farmers from Rajouli, Chakki Gopalpur and several neighbouring villages had gone to Diara sandbanks to plant pointed gourd vines.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, District Magistrate Richie Pandey reached the CHC with senior district police officials and directed the SDM to conduct a thorough inquiry.
