Gwalior, Jul 8 (PTI) A man allegedly involved in cases of robbery was arrested after an encounter in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
Both the accused and a policeman sustained injuries in the exchange of fire and are undergoing treatment, an official said.
The police received information that the accused, Kaushal Gurjar, who was involved in a recent robbery in Pichhore tehsil, was spotted in Dabra town, Additional Superintendent of Police Krishna Lalchandani said.
He said when a police team were activated in Dabra, Gurjar managed to escape to the Phoolbagh area of Gwalior, where his sister was undergoing treatment at a hospital, and he went to visit her.
The police cordoned off the Phoolbagh area, but the accused opened fire at them, injuring a policeman, and escaped with his accomplice on a motorcycle, the official said.
It was soon found that Gurjar was hiding in the hills behind a cancer hospital in the city, following which teams from three police stations reached the spot around 4 am and asked him to surrender, the ASP said.
However, the accused again fired shots at the policemen and suffered injuries to his right leg in the retaliatory firing, he said.
The official said Gurjar has cases of loot and robbery to his name in several cities of Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Rajasthan.
The Ajmer police had announced a bounty of Rs 10,000 on Gurjar, who is a resident of Bijauli village in Gwalior, he added.
