Amaravati, July 1 (PTI) Senior BJP leader PVN Madhav on Tuesday officially took over as the party's Andhra Pradesh unit president, succeeding D Purandeswari.

BJP leader and Bengaluru MP PC Mohan, who supervised the election, announced that Madhav was elected unanimously.

“The certificate of (election as president) has been presented to Madhav,” said a party release.

The transition marks the end of the around two-year tenure of Rajahmundry MP D Purandeswari as the party president in the state, it said.

Madhav's election as president was a foregone conclusion as he was the lone candidate to file the nomination on Monday.

Born on August 10, 1973, Madhav entered active politics in 2003 by joining Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP.

During his tenure as the state vice president of BJYM between 2003 and 2007, he organised several events and worked towards strengthening the youth wing of BJP.

From 2007 to 2010, Madhav served as the state general secretary of BJYM and later as the national secretary between 2010 and 2013.

During the 2009 general elections, he had unsuccessfully contested the Visakhapatnam North MLA election but later became an MLC.

He was elected as Andhra Pradesh graduates constituency MLC from the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam between 2017 and 2023.
