New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) Sugar producer Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd on Wednesday reported a 90 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 102.29 crore for the quarter ended September, supported by higher revenue.
Its net profit stood at Rs 53.89 crore in the year-ago period.
Total income rose to Rs 1,909.84 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 1,679.49 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding financial year, according to a regulatory filing.
During the April-September period of the 2026-27 fiscal, the company's profit increased to Rs 146.43 crore from Rs 105.46 crore in the year-ago period.
Total income grew to Rs 3,561.55 crore in the first half of this fiscal from Rs 3,228.07 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding financial year.
Balrampur Chini Mills Chairman and Managing Director Vivek Saraogi said the company delivered a strong performance during a seasonally weak quarter.
"Strong volume coupled with improved realisation resulted in sugar segment PBIT to increase by 166 per cent to Rs 140.75 crores during the second quarter of FY27 compared to the corresponding quarter last year," he added.
The improvement in sugar realisations, supported by firm domestic prices, also helped offset the cost pressures arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis, Saraogi said.
"While the 2025–26 sugar season concluded with carryover stocks of around 3.6 million tonnes, providing an initial cushion for domestic availability, the gradual increase in sugar consumption, coupled with an expected decline in sugar production in the 2026–27 season, is likely to keep the overall supply-demand balance relatively tight," he said.
Saraogi pointed out that production prospects in Maharashtra and Karnataka have been adversely affected by deficient monsoons and drought-like conditions, while Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain relatively stable, supported by better irrigation infrastructure.
"These factors are expected to lend support to domestic sugar prices. However, the Government has taken various measures to ensure adequate availability and contain sharp price movements, including permitting duty-free imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar," he said.
Further, Saraogi said the distillery segment performance was affected by compressed margins due to non-revision of procurement prices of ethanol despite a significant increase in sugarcane price and higher operating costs.
The company’s Board of Directors has declared an interim dividend of Rs 4 per equity share.
Balrampur Chini has ten sugar factories located in Uttar Pradesh, with an aggregate sugarcane crushing capacity of 80,000 tonnes per day. It also makes ethanol.
The company is setting up a polylactic acid (PLA) factory in UP at a cost of more than Rs 3,000 crore.
