New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) India's power consumption grew 21.88 per cent year-on-year to 159.76 billion units (BU) in October, largely fueled by increased commercial and industrial demand amid ongoing festival season and also continuous use of cooling appliances across the country.
The country's total power consumption was 131.07 BU in October 2025.
According to experts, the rise in commercial and industrial demand of electricity amid ongoing festival season as well as continuous use of cooling appliances October in many parts of the country pushed power consumptions in the month.
The peak power demand also jumped to 260.73 GW last month from 210.82 GW in October 2025. India's peak power demand had hit the record high of 270.82 GW in May 2026. The Ministry of Power has projected 270 GW of peak power demand during the summer season in 2026.
Experts projected steady power demand in October, with a likely increase in industrial and commercial requirements ahead of the festival season. They were of the view that power demand and consumption will remain steady in November as well, due to festivities and above-normal temperatures across most of the country.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of India in November, except for some regions along the foothills of the Himalayas where normal to below-normal maximum temperatures are expected.
