Days after lynching and violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, another Hindu man was shot dead in Mymensingh, about 120 km north of Dhaka.

The murder happened on Monday around 6.30 pm.

Who was Bajendra Biswas?

Bajendra Biswas was an employee at Sultana Sweaters Ltd factory in Mehrabari, Mymensingh. The 40-year-old was identified as the son of Probitra Biswas from Kadirpur, Sylhet Sadar. Biswas was a member of Bangladesh Ansar, a paramilitary auxiliary force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Ansar personnel are usually deployed to provide security at factories, banks etc.

Biswas was fatally shot by a colleague, Noman Mia, 22, who was identified as the son of one Lutfar Rahman from Baluturi Bazar in Sunamhanj. Mia is also an Ansar volunteer.

Before firing with a shotgun at Biswas's thigh, Mia reportedly said, "Shall I shoot?". After shooting, Mia fled immediately. The bullet caused severe injuries in the victim's thigh and led to heavy bleeding. Though Biswas was rushed to the Bhaluka Sub-district Health Complex, he was declared dead on arrival.

At least 20 Ansar personnel were on duty at the factory when the incident occurred. An eyewitness said the duo did not have any argument before the incident.

Mia was arrested soon after, revealed Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) of Mymensingh. He added that there have launched a probe into the death.

Earlier, a man named Amrit Mondal was killed over extortion allegations. Days before that, a factory worker identified as Dipu Chandra Das was lynched to death by a crowd.
