Social media is abuzz with rumours which claim Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023 in multiple cases, has been assassinated in prison.

The rumours may have gained momentum after a tweet from the handle of ministry of foreign affairs Baluchistan, which is known for peddling misinformation, claimed, citing some news outlets, that Khan has been killed by Asim Munir and his ISI administration

"Reports are now surfacing from inside the prisons of PUnjabi Pakistan that Imran Khan, who was being held in custody, has been killed by Asim Munir and his ISI administration according to several news outlets. If this information is confirmed to be true, it marks the absolute end of terrorist Pakistan. The collapse of its last remaining legitimacy will begin the moment the truth is exposed to the world," the tweet read.

Many others, too took to X to claim that Khan was killed or raise questions about the safety of the former Pakistan PM.

Some cited a "credible source" to say that ISI killed Khan in prison.

This is not the first time such rumours of Khan being murdered in prison have spread. A few months ago, a press release bearing the letterhead of Pakistan's ministry of foreign affairs claimed that the former Pakistan PM was murdered. The report had gone viral on social media.

The rumours come even as the three sisters of Khan—Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Dr Uzma Khan—who are camped outside Adiala Jail along with other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members after being denied a meeting with him for a month demanded an impartial probe into the "brutal" police assault on them and the supporters outside the jail.

On Tuesday, Khan's sisters claimed that they were sitting outside the jail when police personnel pounced on them and brutally assaulted them for what the party said was "their crime for seeking a meeting with Imran Khan".
