The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that the sisters of former prime minister Imran Khan were manhandled and “violently detained” by police outside the Adiala jail in Pakistan, where he is currently incarcerated.
The sisters had camped outside the jail in Rawalpindi after being denied a weekly meeting with the party founder, Dawn reported.
Members of PTI held a protest outside the jail on Tuesday. However, they were not allowed to meet Khan.
On X, the party posted videos of sisters Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Dr. Uzma Khan looking visibly shaken. The post said that they were sitting peacefully outside the jail when they were reportedly manhandled by jail officers.
The posts also said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak and other party workers, including several women, were “subjected to violence and picked up by police”.
“What should be routine weekly court-mandated family visits, in accordance with Imran Khan’s rights as a prisoner, are being used as a tool of oppression and violence against his family members and supporters,” the party said.
In one post, Noreen Niazi says, "I was just standing there, the policewoman grabbed me by the hair and threw me to the ground. What they did to me, I still can't understand what and why they did it. I was dragged by my arms and legs. It's regrettable to what extent they have stooped. We were sitting peacefully."
“Those women were dragging (her) on the road,” Aleema said in one video. She said that Noreen was practically unconscious as she was dragged through the floor.
Aleema also alleged that she and her sisters were denied a meeting with Imran, as “Asim Munir’s notification has not yet been signed”.
The party condemned the “inhumane, unlawful and disgraceful treatment" of the Imran family members.
