'Cancel Netflix'? Why Elon Musk's online battle against streaming giant went viral

All through this week, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk intensified calls to cancel Netflix with a slew of posts (and replies) on X.

This comes after he called out Hamish Steele, the creator of 'Dead End: Paranormal Park', an animated horror series on Netflix.

Just last month, the London-based animation director had called slain conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk a "nazi", among other expletives, in a BlueSky post.

Charlie Kirk died on September 10 after a single gunshot to the neck during a public appearance at a Utah university.

Following a post on X alleging that Steele's show was also "pushing" pro-transgender content on children—which Musk reposted and replied to—the debate also became about Netflix's programming, LGBTQ agenda, and the streaming giant's hiring policies.

"It's probably going to be a very odd day," Steele replied to Musk in a BlueSky post, with a screenshot of the latter's posts against Netflix.

"Cancel Netflix", Musk wrote in one post. In another post, he urged netizens to do it "for the health of your kids", referring to a "transgender woke agenda" allegedly being pushed on children.

He also continues to respond and repost screenshots of other people's Netflix cancellations, urging more to join the bandwagon.

The world's richest man has often made remarks against what he calls the “woke mind virus".

The Musk-led 'Cancel Netflix' controversy comes weeks after the streaming giant's co-founder Reed Hastings donated $2 million to a campaign supporting California Governor (and Democrat) Gavin Newsom’s redistricting efforts.

The contribution quickly sparked a "cancel Netflix" trend on X, with MAGA supporters publicly pledging to cancel their subscriptions in protest.
