On the 75th anniversary of the China-India diplomatic ties, President Xi Jinping spoke with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and stressed that both countries should work more closely together.
The relationship should take the form of a "Dragon-Elephant tango", he said.
The Chinese and Indian leaders exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday marking the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between both nations.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang and PM Narendra Modi also exchanged congratulatory messages.
Chinese Foreign Ministery spokesperson Guo Jiakun while briefing the media said that under the strategic guidance of both countries, China stands ready to work with India to view and handle bilateral relations with a strategic and long-term perspective.

Both the countries should "deepen communication and coordination in major international affairs, jointly maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas," he said.
With the aim of easing the Ladakh standoff between India and China, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Beijing for talks to normalise the relations between the two nations.

The India-China troops completed disengagement at Depsang and Demchok in Eastern Ladakh in October last year ending a four-year-long standoff.
Misri's Beijing visit came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Xi held a series of high-level meetings last year. On the sidelines of the BRICS summit last year, Modi and Xi provided strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations at their meeting in Kazan, Russia.
Fresh diplomatic talks were held by both countries on March 25 with the focus on ensuring effective border management and early resumption of cross-border cooperation and exchanges, including trans-border rivers and continuance of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
