PTI general secretary Asad Umar was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by officials of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and capital police on Wednesday, Dawn reported. The arrest comes a day after Pakistan's former prime minister was arrested outside the IHC by the Rangers, a paramilitary force.
Umar was at the IHC preparing to file a plea to seek permission to meet Khan. According to Geo News, Umar was arrested despite attempts by his lawyers to stop the arrest. The police also tried to arrest PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, but party workers and lawyers were able to prevent the arrest.
Umar, the former finance minister of Pakistan has been booked under two cases, the same as against PTI leaders following the protests that took place after Khan's arrest.
Umar is currently being detained at the Ramna police station. He was reportedly one of the first leaders to call party supporters and workers for protest.
The Punjab police in the meanwhile, said that 945 miscreants and lawbreakers from across the province have been arrested, after PTI protests, AFP reported. Also, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi wrote on Twitter that the party was working to secure Imran Khan’s release.
