United Nations' nuclear watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency established a permanent mission at South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant to ensure its nuclear safety. IAEA raised its flag at the plant.

Announcing the move, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi tweeted, “IAEA flag is now flying at #Ukraine’s #Pivdennoukrainsk (South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant). We are here to stay to help ensure nuclear safety and security during the ongoing conflict. Soon IAEA will be permanently present at all Ukraine NPPs.”

Rafael Grossi said in a video, “So now we are setting our permanent presence here.”

The nuclear watchdog has been monitoring the functioning of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, especially following attacks on Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Zaporizhzhia is the largest nuclear plant in Europe and it is currently controlled by Russia.
