Oman has conferred the Civil Order of Oman (First Class) on United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
The honour was presented by Oman’s Ruler, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, in recognition of the Secretary-General’s diplomatic and political engagements, his leadership in de-escalating conflicts, and his sustained efforts to advance international peace and security.

Expressing gratitude for the honour, the UN Secretary-General commended the Sultanate’s constructive and prudent diplomatic initiatives in supporting dialogue and mediation.
He also underlined the importance of continued partnership with Oman in ensuring stability and peace at the international level.
The ceremony, held at Al Barakah Palace, was attended by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi; Head of the Private Office Dr Hamad bin Saeed Al Aufi; Adviser at the Private Office Hussein bin Ali Abdullatif; UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud; and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
