It was a surprise hit at the theatres, grossing Rs 75 against a budget of Rs 10 crore. The Tamil-language comedy-drama starring Radikaa Sarathkumar is gearing up for its digital release. "Thaai Kizhavi" will begin streaming on JioHotstar from April 10.
Released in theatres on 27 February 2026, the movie has been both a critical and commercial success, grossing over Rs 150 crore worldwide. It marked the directorial debut of Sivakumar Murugesan, who previously worked as an assistant director and screenwriter in "Kadaisi Vivasayi" (2022) and "Aan Paavam Pollathathu" (2025).
Radika Sarathkumar has been praised for her nearly unrecognisable performance as Pavunuthaayi, a fiercely independent and unapologetically blunt 70-year-old moneylender in a rural village in Tamil Nadu. The plot thickens when she falls ill, much to her good-for-nothing sons' relief. However, when they are told of a valuable "treasure" she has been hiding for a while, they strive to keep her alive.
"Thaai Kizhavi" will also stream in the Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada dubbed versions.
Its approximate duration is 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Aside from Radikaa Sarathkumar, the cast comprises Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Bala Saravanan, and Ilavarasu.
It is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and actor Sivakarthikeyan under the banners of Passion Studios and Sivakarthikeyan Productions, respectively. Sivakarthikeyan's previous producing credits include "Kottukkaali", "Vaazhl", and "Kurangu Pedal".
