British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned of a 'long war' in Ukraine and asked allies to ensure that Ukraine had the strategic resilience to win the war.

Ukrinform reporting the British PM's article for The Sunday Times quoted him saying, "I am afraid that we need to steel ourselves for a long war, as Putin resorts to a campaign of attrition, trying to grind down Ukraine by sheer brutality.”

Johnson stressed in the article that Britain and other allies must ensure that Ukraine has the strategic resilience to survive and ultimately win. "Time is the vital factor. Everything will depend on whether Ukraine can strengthen its ability to defend its soil faster than Russia can renew its capacity to attack," Johnson wrote in the publication.

The British PM says Ukraine's western partners must fulfill four points to help the country survive and seize the initiative. Johnson wrote that the west must provide Ukraine with necessary weapons, ammunition, equipment and training, Ukrinform reported. The publication quoted him saying that UK would train 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers every 120 days. He adds that the west must provide financial assistance to the war-torn country to ensure stability of the government, for it to pay wages, pensions and for reconstruction of buildings destroyed in the war.

Johnson said that to maintain the Ukrainian economy, land routes must be provided for the export of its agricultural produce. The British PM stressed that immediate steps must be taken for unblocking Ukraine's sea ports and export 25 million tonnes of wheat and corn which is needed by the least developed countries.

Ukrinfrom quoted the British PM saying, “We must strengthen the hand of our Ukrainian friends to finish this war on the terms that President Zelenskyy has laid out. That should be the definition of success."

In his recent video address following a visit to Mykolaiv region, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “Many houses were destroyed, civilian logistics were disrupted, there are many social issues. I have commissioned to make assistance to people who have lost loved ones more systemic. We will definitely restore everything that was destroyed. Russia does not have as many missiles as our people have the desire to live.”

On exports, Zelenskyy said, “ Our position is clear and unchanged - as soon as we can ensure security through international mediation, Ukraine will do everything possible to counter the food crisis that broke out across the world – in Asia, Africa and most countries of the world – due to the Russian war.”
