Pakistan I&B Minister Fawad Hussain on Friday tweeted, “Security agencies have reported that a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Imran Khan has been hatched. Following these reports, the security of the Prime Minister has been beefed up as per the government decision.”
On Wednesday, The Dawn reported PTI leader Faisal Vawda said that there’s a plot to assassinate PM Khan over his refusal to “sell the country”. Khan, in a public address on March 30, waved a letter, in which he claimed there’s a ‘foreign conspiracy’ to oust him.
Vawda’s claim came after MQM, a major coalition partner, exited Khan’s coalition and joined the Opposition.
Pakistan summoned a senior US diplomat and lodged a strong protest over America’s alleged “interference” in its internal affairs, according to media reports on Friday.
The US State Department on Thursday firmly rejected embattled Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks over Washington’s role in an alleged “foreign conspiracy” to oust him from power.
The Foreign Office also handed over a letter of protest to the US diplomat over the language used by a foreign official during a formal communication.
The National Assembly is scheduled to vote on the no-trust motion on Sunday.
Khan's address came at a critical juncture of his political career when he lost the majority after defection of lawmakers from his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
