A student in Italy became an internet sensation after he got the barcode of his COVID-19 vaccination certificate on his arm. 22-year-old Andrea Colonnetta said he wanted to get a topical and practical tattoo and hence decided to get the barcode inked by tattoo artist Gabriele Pellerone on the underside of his left arm.

Colonnetta now has the QR code of his official Italian COVID-19 green pass, which gives proof that you are vaccinated, have recovered from the virus or tested negative in the last 48 hours.

Italy requires people to have this extension of the EU's COVID-19 certificate since August 6, if they are to enter cinemas, museums, indoor sports venues or want to eat indoors at restaurants.

Colonnetta has been fully vaccinated. The tattoo brought him a lot of attention on Instagram and TikTok. His parents, however, were a bit perplexed.

“Certainly they encouraged me to be less impulsive and to better reflect on things...” he told AFP.

Colonnetta has uploaded a video on TikTok, that shows his QR code getting scanned before he entered a McDonalds.
