Reacting to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani fleeing Kabul after the Taliban entered the Afghanistan capital city, Jamil Karzai, former Afghanistan MP and a relative of former Afghan president Hamid Karzai said Ghani betrayed Afghanistan.

“Kabul was occupied by Taliban when I left the city. I think there will be a new govt. Whatever has happened has happened because of Ashraf Ghani. He betrayed Afghanistan. People will not forgive him," news agency ANI quoted Jamil Karzai as saying.

Afghan chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah too slammed Ghani for fleeing the country.

"The fact that the former Afghan president left the country and put the people and country in such a bad situation, God will hold him accountable and the people of Afghanistan will also judge him," CNN quoted him as saying in a video.

In a stunning rout, the Taliban seized nearly all of Afghanistan in just over a week, despite the billions of dollars spent by the US and NATO over nearly two decades to build up Afghan security forces. Just days earlier, an American military assessment estimated it would be a month before the capital would come under insurgent pressure.
