Two teenage girls in Washington DC were charged, on Sunday, with killing an Uber Eats driver, while they were trying to steal his car. 66-year-old Mohammed Anwar was a father of three.

Footage of the incident shows one of the suspects accelerating, dragging him alongside and crushing him against a fence when Anwar attempted to recover his car. The footage also showed Anwar arguing with the girls inside the vehicles. The police said the suspects used a taser on Anwar. The suspected carjackers—a 13-year-old girl from Washington DC and a 15-year-old girl from Fort Washington, Maryland have been charged with felony murder and armed carjacking.

The girls had been detained by National Guardsmen at the scene until the police arrived. The girls were riding in the car with Anwar on Tuesday. The girls tried to steal the car when the vehicle reached a short distance to the vicinity of Nationals Park,  The incident took place on March 23 and the teens made their initial court appearance on March 24. They have been detained until their next court appearance on March 31 as a judge ruled they were a threat to a community.

Anwar's niece has launched a GoFundMe to help pay for a traditional Islamic funeral for her uncle. It raised over $430,000, well and over the $100,000 goal the family had set. According to a Washington Post report, in comparison to eight incidents of carjacking incidents in the first week of 2020, there have been 46 carjackings in 2021.
