The Gabba witnessed BBL history on Friday (December 19) as Brisbane Heat scaled the highest-successful chase in the tournament's history, courtesy sparkling hundreds from Jack Wildermuth (110* off 54) and Matt Renshaw (102 off 51). Set a mammoth target of 258, the home side got there with a ball to spare to storm into the record books. It was the first instance of two batters scoring a century in a T20 run chase, and also the third highest T20 chase of all time.
When Colin Munro fell for a duck off the very first ball of the chase, not many would have fancied history to be made but Wildermuth and Renshaw had other ideas. The duo put on a BBL record partnership for any wicket, adding 212 runs off just 93 deliveries, to put the hosts well and truly on track for greatness.

The duo slammed 18 sixes between them, nine apiece, and also found the fence five times apiece in a display of ruthlessly calm batsmanship as Scorchers bowlers ran out of ideas. Renshaw fell with a bit of work still to be done but Wildermuth ensured that he stayed right till the end and hit the winning runs off the penultimate ball, before roaring in delight.

Max Bryant (28 off 16) also played a priceless cameo although he had to retire hurt with two needed to win due to a freak injury. Earlier on, Scorchers rode on Finn Allen (79 off 38) and Cooper Connolly (77 off 37) who set the platform for a massive total. Cameos from Aaron Hardie, Nick Hobson and Laurie Evans helped Scorchers to go past the gargantuan landmark of 250.
A total of 257 wins 99 games out of 100 in T20 cricket, even with the modern-day style of attacking skill sets. However, on a flat pitch with true bounce, Wildermuth and Renshaw were exceptional as they scripted an unreal run chase with aplomb.
