FC Goa created history in the 2025 Super Cup final by becoming the first team in the tournament's history to successfully defend its title. It took the depth of penalty shootout for FC Goa to retain the title as they prevailed over hosts and favourites East Bengal in a tactically strong summit clash.

After 14 spot kicks in total during the penalty shootout, FC Goa emerged victorious by 6-5 margin in a cracking finale. East Bengal missed two of their penalty kicks while FC Goa missed one. It all came down to nerves and FC Goa were slightly the better side in that aspect with Tavora producing the title-clinching penalty for his side.
This was the first-ever Super Cup final to go to the penalty shootout. Not many expected it to be 0-0 after 120 minutes but neither side created a lot of clear cut chances in the game. East Bengal would rue some of their missed opportunities early in the first half as FC Goa endured a scratchy beginning to the final.
As the game went deeper into the second half and into extra time, fatigue levels of the players were evident. In the second half, there was some intent from both sides to force the issue but the creativity in the final third was severely lacking. FC Goa came close to a potentially game-sealing goal but Brison Fernandes' effort deflected away off the post. Another chance came in the 81st minute once again, the post denied Goa.
There was barely any moment of note in the extra time phase as both sides went through the motions. Eventually, penalty shootout decided the victors and while they weren't dominant in the final, FC Goa showed their wares during crunch moments.
