The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold an emergency meeting with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The meeting, slated for Wednesday (December 3), will be conducted in Raipur. Within hours of India's 17-run win against South Africa in the first ODI of the three-match series, speculations were rife about the agenda of BCCI's emergency meeting.
With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma only playing the ODI format, the future of the veterans has been a major talking point before India's tour of Australia. The major unconfirmed chatter is that this emergency meeting is to discuss about Kohli and Rohit, with Agarkar and Gambhir. Social media is buzzing with conspiracy theories and one of them is regarding a possible rift between Gambhir and the senior duo.
However, according to Sportstar this emergency meeting is reportedly to discuss about India's Test team and the roadmap for the future, given that India's next red-ball game is only midway through 2026. Having suffered two series whitewashes at home in the space of a year, it is time for retrospection and that is supposedly the major agenda of this emergency meeting in Raipur.
The chatter around Kohli and Rohit, however, continues. Rohit struck a fifty in the series opener against South Africa, to follow up with his hundred and half-century in the Australia series. Kohli, meanwhile, started the Australia tour with two successive ducks but left the country with a fine fifty, and began the South Africa series with his 83rd international hundred.

With the way the senior duo is performing, any talk of them being dropped in the near future seems illogical. However, both Gambhir and Agarkar have been vocal about blooding in the youngsters with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. Whether there is substance to the Rohit-Kohli vs Gambhir-Agarkar battle, only time will tell.
However, there is no official source to confirm that this BCCI meeting will discuss about their ODI futures or white-ball cricket in general. After the ongoing South Africa series, India will also host an ODI series against New Zealand.
