Iran on Tuesday said the blockade on Strait of Hormuz can be lifted within seven days if the United States eases military pressure.
This comes two days after Tehran's military said the US is planning to resume military operations with support of its regional allies.
Speaking to Reuters, an Iranian official said the US should also remove the counter-blockade on Iranian ports in order to restore normalcy to traffic on the water body.
“The US needs to announce that it wants to resolve the issue diplomatically, make that official, and then agree on a timeline for how the process will move forward,” the news agency quoted the official as saying.
The official added that the Iranian delegation to the UN General Assembly, which is currently in New York, has full authority to restore diplomatic ties with the US. He added that Tehran has submitted a proposal to the US via mediators on September 16.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is open to speaking with the Iranian delegation at the UN General Assembly.
"We're open to that. I don't think anything is scheduled at this point, but we're certainly open to something like that, especially if it has the prospects of leading to something positive and ultimately achieving the goal of what this is all about. And that is the fact that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. They just simply can't," Rubio told NBC.
