Despite reports of interest from FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi could land in Old Trafford, a new report said. Manchester United have opened transfer talks with 23-year-old Adeyemi's agent, Jorge Mendes, it added.

Adeyemi, who holds dual German-Nigerian citizenship, is contracted with Borussia Dortmund until 2027. The forward, who is also effective on either wing, is likely to leave Signal Iduna Park in the upcoming summer as the Bundesliga club is reportedly looking to sell him for a stupendous price. As things stand, Manchester United and Inter Milan are the frontrunners in the race for the speedy attacker's signature, the report said.

It was in 2022 that Adeyemi joined Dortmund from RB Salzburg. The Bayern Munich academy product has scored 29 goals and provided 22 assists for the former German champions from 121 outings. For Salzburg, his numbers were equally impressive: 33 goals and 23 assists in just 94 outings.

Will Manchester United get German Adeyemi?

"Adeyemi's new agent, Jorge Mendes, is in talks with clubs, including Premier League giants Manchester United. However, rumours that Adeyemi has decided to leave are unfounded," Sky Sports Germany, which broke the news of the talks, said.

With the departure of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho, United now have room for new wingers and the club is in the process of investing in youngsters who can serve the club in the long run. The talented star will be available for a price tag of around €75 to €80 million, Sky Sports said. With the likes of Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund and Manuel Ugarte offloaded, United should easily have the sum needed to make the deal go through.

Adeyemi currently earns a base salary of €475,000 per month (€5.7 million per year) and Dortmund were willing to raise it to €600,000 per month (€7.2 million per year). But the talks were stalled as Mendes was not convinced and this has opened the doors for a potential exit, the report said.
