We are moving towards the last quarter of 2025 with less than three months left in the calendar year. Shubman Gill, India's Test captain and newly-appointed ODI captain, is on a purple patch since the Test tour of England. The Punjab batter racked up four centuries in that series and has had an exceptional year overall so far.

Gill has scored the most international runs in 2025 so far with 1540 runs from 29 innings. The 26-year-old has seven centuries and three fifties, averaging an impressive 59.23 with the bat. Gill has taken to Test leadership with aplomb and now, all eyes are on how he handles the pressure of being India's ODI captain.

India's first ODI assignment under Gill will be the ODI series in Australia that starts on Sunday (October 19). Zimbabwe's Brian Bennett is second in the batters list with 1351 runs from 38 inning at an average of 36.51, with three hundreds and eight fifties. The Zimbabwean opener has had a coming-of-age year as a batter, shouldering his team's fortunes with maturity.

England's run machine Joe Root is at third spot as he continues his unstoppable run in Test cricket. Recalled to ODI cricket recently, the veteran is also churning out the runs in white-ball cricket. Root averages the most among the top batters of 2025 with a staggering 67.50, aggregating 1350 runs from just 22 innings with six hundreds and five fifties.

Root's fellow England teammate Ben Duckett is at fourth spot with 1340 runs from 40 innings. The left-hander averages 44.66 with three hundreds and eight fifties. These are impressive numbers for an opening batter who loves to play with an ultra-aggressive mindset right from the get-go.

Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka takes the fifth spot and he is another youngster who is growing with every passing innings. The 27-year-old has amassed 1203 runs from 28 innings at an average of 42.96 with four centuries and five fifties. Nissanka has been the backbone for the Lankans across formats with his solidity at the top of the order.
