While cricket continues to be the undisputed no.1 sport in India, it's been a common sight recently to see mega crossover moments between superstars of cricket and football. The upcoming weekend will see another such instance at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are set to host Aston Villa on Sunday (March 15) at Old Trafford in Matchday 30 of the 2025-26 Premier League season. Sourav Ganguly, one of India's biggest cricket legends, has been invited by the Red Devils as a special guest for this fixture. According to renowned reporter Debasis Sen, this isn't a routine invitation for Ganguly.
The 53-year-old will not only be a special guest for the Manchester United-Aston Villa fixture but is also reportedly set to be felicitated on matchday. The exact details of this are still awaited. For now, the only information available is that Ganguly would be at the Old Trafford stadium on Sunday.
Gnaguly has been a self proclaimed fan of Manchester United, terming them as his favourite football club on multiple occasions. He was also the co-owner of a Kolkata-based franchise in the Indian Super League. That side later merged with Mohun Bagan, which meant that Ganguly's stake at the club ended.
Ganguly has also had a long-standing connection with England as his international debut in 1996 happened in the country. He also made a stupendous start to his career with Test tons in his first two innings, including a century at Lord's. He's historically had success in England, both as player and captain.
