After weeks of speculation to and fro, Rasmus Hojlund's future at Manchester United has gotten clarity. Ahead of their first English Premier League encounter of the 2025-26 season, against Arsenal, the Danish attacker will not be part of the the Red Devils's squad for this marquee clash on Sunday (August 17). This decision certainly points towards the fact that the club has decided to move on from Hojlund who was keen to make amends in the upcoming season.

With just 14 goals from 62 appearances for the club, Hojlund's returns at Manchester United have been far from ideal but he appeared to be in good rhythm during the pre-season friendlies. In fact, Hojlund had remarked a few weeks ago about wanting to stay at Old Trafford and didn't seem fazed about the plethora of new signings at the club, which potentially was the final nail regarding his future.
"It was a tough season (in 2024-25) for us all. I think I should have done better, I think everybody knows. But I also think it's a team thing, that we're going to be better now. I think we've shown now in these two games that we're progressing in the right way and looking forward to what's coming," Hojlund had said in an interview more than two weeks ago.
With the addition of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha alongside the last-minute boost of Benjamin Sesko, it is understandable why United don't see a future with Hojlund anymore. Manager Ruben Amorim, while appreciative of Hojlund's work ethics, had also sensed this anti-climax long back. According to Fabrizio Romano, United are open to an outright sale for Hojlund as well as a loan deal, whichever works better for them in terms of feasibility.
