Real Madrid may let Rodrygo go but that doesn't mean they will not look for a fresh attacking option this summer. Despite having Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr in their ranks, the Los Blancos are likely to bid for Atletico Club Bilbao's Nico Williams when the transfer window opens, a report said.

Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams grabbed the headlines as Spain ran away with their fourth Euro title in Germany last year. 22-year-old Williams Jr and 17-year-old Yamal are among the most-followed footballers in Spain after their meteoric rise following the tournament. Real Madrid, according to Spanish media, is desperate to find a Spanish face to challenge Barcelona's home-grown talent Yamal's increasing popularity in the country. Decision makers at the Bernabeu believe they don't need to look beyond Nico Williams, who has the potential to do wonders alongside the Galacticos.

Interestingly, Barcelona showed interest in the youngster last season, but the transfer fell through in the final stages due to the club's financial crisis. Then, under Hansi Flick, Brazilian Raphinha stepped up to become a lethal finisher and a further pursuit of Williams didn't happen.

The Athletic Club Bilbao winger has a €58 million release clause in his contract but the Los Merengues believes it is worth every penny to trigger it as things stand. With speed and passing range to penetrate any defense line, the younger brother of Ghana international Inaki Williams is an asset for at least the next decade, they reportedly calculate. His media appeal and domestic commercial potential — both beyond the Basque club's capability to fully tap —are also reasons attracting Real, according to Marca.

Rodrygo is wanted by PSG and Manchester City -- two of Europe's richest clubs. Saudi's coffers are also wide open to sign him and Real Madrid are certain to shell out money from the Brazilian's sale to get Nico Williams, the report added.
