If being the youngest ever to compete in a world championship wasn’t enough, Luke Littler sure turned heads when he beat 2018 World Darts Championship winner, Rob Cross, with a stunner 6-2 at the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship semi-finals.
The win meant Littler to face Luke “Cool Hand Luke” Humphries, in the finals. Humphries beat 33-year-old Scott Williams, 6-0, in the semis. This will be, both Littler and Humphries's first PDC World Dart Championship final.
Born on January 21, 2007, Littler was raised in Cheshire, England. He started playing darts professionally in 2017 and has participated in various championships, winning youth champion titles and gaining high averages in his matches. In 2019, he became the Isle of Man Masters youth champion and proceeded to defend his win the following year.
In 2021, he won his first-ever seniors title at the Irish Open which qualified him to compete for the 2022 WDF World Darts Championship at the age of 14. He lost in the third round to Richard Veenstra.
More recently in 2023, Littler won the PDC World Darts Youth Championship, winning the title against 22-year-old Dutch player, Gian van Veen, with a final score of 6-4.
He debuted at the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship on December 20th, beating former BDO World Dart Championship winner, Christian Kist, in round 1. Littler managed to average a little more than 100 in all four matches he has played so far in this championship.
Kirk Shepard previously held the record of being the youngest to reach the semi-finals in the 2008 championship, at 21 years old. This year, Littler has a chance to break former champion, Michael van Gerwen, a record of being the youngest winner at age 24, when he was crowned his first championship win in 2014.
Luke Littler and Luke Humphries will face each other for the finals on January 3, 2024, 8 pm GMT.
