India's star batter Virat Kohli has, reportedly, informed the BCCI of his unavailability for the white-ball series in South Africa, which begins on December 10, 2023. The teams will play three T20Is and ODIs, and round off the tour with two Tests.

Kohli, who is on a break after a prolific run in the recently-concluded ODI World Cup where he amassed 765 runs in 11 innings and was adjudged the player of the tournament, is expected to join the team for the two Tests against the Proteas.

There is no clarity yet on India skipper Rohit Sharma's availability for the South Africa series.

The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar is expected to announce the squad later this week.
