Ravindra Jadeja's tenure as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings came to an end, as he handed the charge back to veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni after just eight games in charge.

A statement from CSK said Jadeja wanted to step aside to "focus more on his game".

"MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game."

Dhoni, who had captained CSK for 13 seasons, surprised everybody when he handed over the reins to Jadeja just before the start of the 2022 season. Jadeja had not captained a senior team full-time before this, with his only previous stint in charge being for India Under-19s, in a series in 2007.

The move backfired in a big way, with the defending champions losing six of the eight games. They are ninth on the ten-team points table.

Jadeja never really looked to be in control of the proceedings as a skipper, with Dhoni often seen marshalling the troops instead. His form, too, dipped, scoring only 112 runs and taking five wickets in the eight games so far.
