The Ashes has arrived. As the winners of the T20 World Cup in 2021, Australia will host England for a five-match Ashes series in December 2021 in their own home. Brisbane's Gabba will host the first Test match. It's a much-anticipated Ashes series, given England haven’t won it in the last two.
In an exclusive video published by Betway sports before the Ashes 2021/22, ex-England batsman Kevin Pietersen highlighted the keys to overcoming the Aussies at their home.
Pietersen was a member of England's Ashes-winning team in 2010/11. The renowned English batsman then went on to score 360 runs in the 2010/11 Ashes series, as well as getting the key wicket of Michael Clarke in Adelaide.
Kevin Pietersen is a Betway ambassador and was a key player of the only England team to win the test cricket match, the Ashes, in Australia since 1987. He scored 360 runs at an average of 60, while also capturing one key wicket of Michael Clarke in Adelaide.
He has been vocal about the ashes very impressively. He discusses the keys to winning the Ashes down under in this exclusive video published ahead of the 2021/22 battle, including:
· Why is the 1st Test match extremely important?
· The significance of scoring a lot of runs.
· How to keep the Australian audience intact
· Seize the moment
Why is the 1st Test match extremely important?
According to Pietersen, you realise after your career how important the Ashes are - you are judged at the end of your career on how you went in Ashes cricket.
The significance of scoring a lot of runs
Pietersen says you have to make sure you keep the bowlers out there. “It's key to success to know that if you fail your other buddy is definitely going to turn up,” says the former England batsman.
How to keep the Australian audience intact
Once you get off to a really good start then the public and media start to question the Australian side, Kevin said.
Seize the moment
Kevin believes Australia's "mongrel spirit" will get you if you give them a chance in a Test match. He says keeping the momentum down and people focused is key to winning in Australia.
