Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the 400th league goal of his career as Italian giants AC Milan beat their rival from the capital, AS Roma 2-1.

The 40-year-old opened the scoring for his team with a free-kick in the 25th minute. The goal was also his 150th in the Serie A, having played for Inter Milan and Juventus before.

Zlatan scored his first career league goal for Swedish side Malmo in 1999. He has played in seven countries in his two-decade-long career and won league titles in four of them.

“The secret to my longevity is in my mind, as I am trying to prove that 40 is just a number and I can continue to do what I love,” he told a channel when asked about continuing at a high level at his age.

“I have nothing more to prove, but I don’t want to retire and then regret it, thinking I could’ve continued. I don’t want to stop until I am kicked out, well and truly finished,” he said.

Midfielder Franck Kessie scored Milan’s second goal, Theo Hernandez got sent off and Roma’s former Milan boy Stephan El Shaarawy scored a consolation goal in stoppage time.

The loss was AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho’s first home loss in the Serie A in 43 matches. He was previously coach of Inter Milan 10 years ago.

With the win, AC Milan move joint top of the league table with Napoli. Both teams have dropped only two points in their 11 matches this season.
