Former India captain Sourav Ganguly celebrates his 48th birthday on Wednesday, and his ex-teammates and fans are showing their love for the current BCCI president on social media with heartfelt wishes.

Ganguly is one of the best and most beloved captains Indian cricket has ever seen. Taking the reins of the national side in 2000 soon after the match-fixing scandal that rocked the world of cricket, Ganguly proved why he was the best man for the job.

The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ moulded the team with his brand of fearless and aggressive cricket, making India a formidable team, and there has been no looking back since.

Under Ganguly’s leadership, India defeated Australia 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2001, won the 2002 Natwest Trophy after beating England, reached the final of the 2003 World Cup, won its first Test series in Pakistan in 2004, and chalked up many more victories.

‘Dada’, as he is fondly known among his peers, went on to become the most successful Indian captain till he retired in 2008.

He has represented India in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, scoring 7,213 runs and 11,363 runs respectively.

Ganguly was appointed the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India last year in October, and played a key role in India hosting its first day-night Test against Bangladesh.
