India produced a fine bowling performance to restrict South Africa to 149/5 in the second T20I of the three-match series, at Mohali on Wednesday. Newly-appointed skipper Quinton de Kock top-scored with 52, with Temba Bavuma missing out on a well-deserved half-century by one run.

For the Indians, Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/22 in his four overs.

India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl first. South Africa were off to a good start, with de Kock smashing three consecutive fours in the third over bowled by youngster Navdeep Saini.

However, Chahar dismissed opener Reeza Hendricks (6) to put the brakes on the scoring. De Kock then joined forces with Bavuma to put on 57 runs for the second wicket.

It was Saini who broke the stand in the 12th over getting de Kock to miscue a heave to be caught brilliantly by Kohli at mid-off.

New-man Rassie van der Dussen (1) was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the next over, falling to a good return catch.

David Miller (18) and Bavuma tried to produce some momentum with a 36-run partnership, but Chahar returned to dismiss the latter for 49 in the 18th over.

A couple of lusty hits in the last over by Saini helped the Proteas reach a competitive total.

The first T20I at Dharamsala on September 15 was washed out.
