Pakistan batsmen put up an impressive knock against England in their second match in the ongoing cricket World Cup tournament on Monday. A combined batting effort from Pakistan lifted them to their second-highest World Cup total of 348/8 in Trent Bridge.
While Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez top-scored with a 62-ball 84, England's Moeen Ali finished with figures of 3/50 from his 10 overs. Hafeez made the most of a reprieve when Jason Roy floored a routine chance at mid-off following a skied drive off Adil Rashid, with the batsman on 14.
Pakistan batsmen put up a gritty show on Monday against the hosts after losing to the West Indies in what was one of their lowest ever world cup scores. Pakistan had collapsed to 105 all out in a seven-wicket defeat by the West Indies in their World Cup opener at the same ground on Friday.
Apart from Hafeez, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed (55) and Babar Azam (63) also played key roles in building up the Pakistan total. Sarfaraz brought up his fifty in just 40 balls.
For the hosts, apart from Ali, Mark Wood impressed with 2/53 with an economy of 5.30. Meanwhile, England's Chris Woakes took four catches on Monday, equalling the record for the most catches taken by an outfielder in a cricket world cup match. He also took an expensive three for 71 in eight overs. Fast bowler Jofra Archer's 10 wicketless overs cost 79 runs.
Earlier in the day, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bowl with their attack featuring recalled fast bowler Mark Wood.
