India's Axar Patel and West Indies' Carlos Brathwaite bagged the highest bid in the first set of the IPL auction on Tuesday.

Manoj Tiwary was the first to go under the hammer, but went unsold. Hanuma Vihari was the first player to be sold after a tight bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, who eventually bagged him for Rs 2 crore. Shimron Hetmyer of West Indies was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 4.2 crore. Cheteshwar Pujara, Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill remained unsold.

In the capped all-rounder set, Brathwaite was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 5 crore. Akshar Patel was also bagged for the same amount by Delhi Capitals. Sunrisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, got Jonny Bairstow for Rs 2.2 crore. Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan and Yuvraj Singh remained unsold.

In the wicket-keepers' category, West Indies' Nicholas Pooran was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 4.2 crore. Hyderabad bagged Wriddhiman Saha and England's Jonny Bairstow for Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 2.2 crore respectively.
