India continued its medal-winning spree on day eight of the 21st Commonwealth Games as Tejaswini Sawant claimed silver in the 50m rifle prone event. India's medal tally stands at 12 gold, five silver and eight bronze.

Singapore's Martina Lindsay Veloso, who had edged past India's Mehuli Ghosh in the women's 10m air rifle event to win gold, took the top spot while Scotland's Seonaid McIntosh settled for bronze.

Tejaswini shot 102.1, 102.4, 103.3, 102.8, 103.7, 104.6 for a cumulative score of 618.9 over six series to claim her sixth Commonwealth Games medal. Anjum Moudgil, the other Indian shooter in the fray, finished a lowly 16th with 602.2.

The experienced Tejaswini was placed second after four series even as Moudgil faced elimination. She maintained her position at the end of the fifth series and ensured another medal for India with a final-series score of 104.6, her best effort of the day.

In the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, Tejaswini won the silver in 50m rifle prone singles and bronze in 50m rifle prone doubles along with Meena Kumari.

A gold medallist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in 10m air rifle singles, Tejaswini is also the first Indian to clinch a gold in world championship in 2010.

Indian shooters have had a dream run in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Shreyasi Singh brought laurels to India when she won the gold in the women's double trap final. Adding to the bronze haul, Ankur Mittal and Om Prakash Mitharval made it to the podium in the men's double trap final and 50m air pistol event on Wednesday. Mitharval had also won the bronze in the 10m air pistol final.

After winning the gold in the 10m air pistol event, Jitu Rai had a disappointing outing in the 50m air pistol event. Jitu could not continue the momentum from the previous event in this year's Commonwealth Games. He is a Commonwealth games gold medallist in the 50m air pistol event in Glasgow four years ago.

Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker also won gold medals earlier in the week. Heena won the gold in women's 25m pistol event and had previously won the silver in the 10m air pistol event. Sixteen-year-old Manu Bhaker had bested Heena in the 10m event when she won the gold.

Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela also added to India's medal tally in the Commonwealth Games with a silver and bronze respectively in the women's 10m air rifle event. Seventeen-year-old Ghosh won her silver after a shoot-off.
