The best thing about gaming is that you can play them months after their release, and your experience is your own. As we are in the thick of monsoons, with the festive months in India to be here soon, it is time to power up that console or gaming PC and experience some fantastic titles out this year.
As we at THE WEEK made this list, our team found the sheer variety of the 2025 lineup staggeringly impressive. It feels like the return of colossal, generation-defining titles, and brand-new worlds brimming with magic, mystery, and travel.
So, how about checking these recent titles out? Here are five of them you might enjoy.
Monster Hunter Wilds
February 2025
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
A worthy successor to the 2018 Monster Hunter: World. Capcom took the best of all its games and pushed it into the legendary monster-slaying franchise. Full disclosure: ou either love the game, or hate it... there is no in-between.
South of Midnight
April 2025
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
This one got a quiet release, but it is worth the hype. South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game about Hazel—a young woman with latent abilities as a weaver to mend broken bonds and spirits. As a gamer, you are guaranteed a AAA experience. But there is no sign of a PS5 release yet.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
April 2025
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
This turn-based RPG is the year’s runaway hit and a strong contender for Game of the Year. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 saw massive sales and the building of an ardent following. There is only one other title in this list to give it any competition.
DOOM: The Dark Ages
May 2025
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
This first-person shooter game from id Software and Bethesda is the eighth major title in the Doom franchise, and is worth a round. You won’t regret it.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
June 2025
Platforms: PlayStation 5
The best of the lot. Hideo Kojima’s sequel to his 2019 third-person open-world masterpiece is a mind-bending journey of connection. Sam Porter Bridges is back on a new epic adventure across a post-apocalyptic world, across Mexico and Australia, featuring amazing visuals and a star-studded narrative. Read our review here!
This list is nowhere near a prime list. There are so many impressive titles, and more are scheduled to release later this year. But for now, these are a great start to a wonderful gaming journey of mid-2025.
