Aditya-L1 was successfully launched on the PSLV-C57 rocket, which is the 59th flight of PSLV and 25th mission using PSLV-XL configuration. It was lifted off from Second Launch Pad (SLP), SDSC, SHAR. Aditya-L1 is heading to a highly eccentric earth-bound orbit and will perform orbital manoeuvres by using its LAM to reach the sun-earth Lagrange point L1, which is 1.5 million kilometers from our planet.
The PSLV C57 has a lift-off mass of 321 tonne and a vehicle height of 44.4 metre. The spacecraft will revolve around earth for 16 days in various orbits and will take 109 more days to reach its destination after exiting the planet's gravitational influence.
After Aditya-L1 lifted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, it will be initially placed in a low-earth orbit. Later, a manoeuvre will be carried out to place the spacecraft in an elliptical orbit. It will then be propelled towards the destination using onboard propulsion. It will then exit our planet's Sphere of Influence and move towards the L1 point during the Cruise Phase when the sun's gravitational pull will take over. Eventually, the solar probe will enter the halo orbit around the L1 point.
