While new releases have slowed down the momentum of Drishyam 3 box office run, it would not be a surprise if the family thriller manages to become the fourth highest worldwide grosser in Malayalam film industry.
Drishyam 3 crossed ₹230 crore in worldwide collections and needs just under ₹5 crore more to surpass the lifetime collections of Mohanlal's own Thudarum and Vaazha II, which released on April 2. Both films had earned around ₹234.25 crore each before they moved to OTT.
On Day 15, Drishyam 3 netted ₹66 lakh from 1,014 domestic shows tracked by Sacnilk, till 7 pm. The total net domestic collection of the Jeethu Joseph directorial stood at ₹102.36 crore while the gross domestic earnings was recorded at ₹118.78 crore.
Looking at the past three days, there has been steady decline in net domestic collections. Drishyam 3 earned ₹2.2 crore on Day 12, ₹1.55 crore on Day 13 and ₹1.25 crore on Day 14. During the second weekend, the movie bagged above ₹5 crore on both Saturday and Sunday.
According to reports, Drishyam 3 still has realistic chances to hit the ₹250 crore milestone. But its performance in the coming weekend will be crucial as theatres unlikely to woo moviegoers during week days, which is evident from current earning trends. Manjummel Boys has a total collection of ₹242.3 crore.
However, it is unlikely to beat the ₹266 crore collection of Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan. The highest grossing Malayalam movie is Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra with a ₹303.86 crore collection.
