The UAE woke up to scattered rain on Sunday morning and a drop in temperature, which authorities said will be accompanied by dust-raising winds reaching 45 km/hr until 6 pm. Showers were reported in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.
The temperature dropped to below 20s Celsius and experts predict it could go to 10 degrees Celsius.
According to the National Center of Meteorology, rain is expected in multiple areas, especially the coastal and northern parts of the country. This will cause a dust storm, which will impact the visibility. This comes as the UAE is witnessing the effect of a surface low-pressure system extending from the Red Sea, accompanied by humid southeasterly winds.
The situation will only get worse over the next week, especially from Tuesday. The atmospheric instability is expected to intensify, bringing heavier rainfall in intermittent waves, alongside thunder, lightning, and possible hail in some regions. Once the upper-level low-pressure system deepens, the cloud cover will increase over scattered areas, interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds, accompanied by varying intensities of rain at intervals and in waves.
The winds will be southeasterly to northeasterly, moderate to brisk, and sometimes strong, especially with cumulonimbus clouds. Dust storms could be frequent.
A senior weather expert with Accuweather, Jason Nicholls, predicted that strong storms and heavy rain are expected not only in the UAE, but in North northeastern parts of Kuwait and Qatar on Sunday and Monday. “Rain and mountain snow are expected in Iran early next week. Showers can reach the UAE, SE Saudi Arabia, and Oman midweek,” he posted on X.
