Amid the growing India-Pakistan tensions in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, India banned ships having Pakistani flags from entering the Indian ports. Besides, Indian vessels have been asked not to enter Pakistani ports.
“Now therefore, in exercise of power conferred by section 411 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 read with objectives as enshrined under Preamble of the said Act, keeping in view of the present situation, the following directions are hereby issued:
A ship bearing the flag of Pakistan shall not be allowed to visit any Indian Port.
An Indian flag ship shall not visit any Ports of Pakistan,” the order from the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) read.

According to DGS, this is done in order to ensure the safety of Indian assets, cargo and connected infrastructure.
The order will come into effect immediately and will remain in place until further orders.
Meanwhile, India has also banned direct or indirect import of all goods from Pakistan.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification, said a provision in this regard has been added in Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 "to prohibit direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan with immediate effect until further orders."
