Daughter of a martyr was prevented from meeting the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as she was dragged away by women police personnel. The woman, identified as Rupal Tadvi (26), rushed towards the dais, where the CM was speaking, crying, "I want to meet him, I want to meet him." But she was halted mid-way by police personnel.

Rupal is a known face to the police in the state as she had been agitating for several months alleging that the government did not give a piece of land promised to her family after her father, Ashok Tadvi, was martyred. Her father was employed with the BSF.

Police said Rupal and her family members had tried to breach the security cordon of the CM earlier too. "The family claims that the land promised by the government after the death of Ashok Tadvi has not been allotted. They have been protesting for long and we have to keep an eye on them," a police officer said.

The CM announced from the stage that he will meet her after the programme, but did not instruct the cops to stop dragging Rupal. Officials said that despite Rupani's promise to meet her, nothing of the sort happened after the programme.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi used the video of the incident, which had gone viral, to target the BJP.

He tweeted, "BJP's arrogance at its peak. Patriot Rupani ji made (partymen) throw out the daughter of a martyr and has shamed humanity. The family got hollow promises instead of justice for 15 years."

After the incident, the CM ordered a slew of benefits for her family in a series of tweets. He further went on to warn Rahul Gandhi against using the name of martyr's for politcal gains.
